How much traffic gets 1st Page from Google’s SERP?

Almost 8 out of 10 people search the web to find services – buy gadgets, clothes, find doctors, find restaurants, order food and almost everything you can imagine...

Internet opened up a big box full of services and your business has to be in that box otherwise you miss 8 out 10 of your potential customers.

It is almost a crime for you business, if you don't have a web presence.

Only 2 in 10 still use dusty, thick, paper directory books – like Yellow Pages.
8 out 10 search the BIG 3 to get information. Big 3 search engines are the dominant names on the search market:
  • Google
  • Bing
  • Yahoo
Combined, BIG 3 represent more than 95% of the search market.
ASK and AOL completes the picture with other 4-5%.  Stats from comScore proved it.

Who uses Google? Bing? Yahoo?

The answer is everybody relies on Search Engines more and more each and every day and Internet gets into our life from all the angels.
Our PC is connected to the Internet, our smart phones and tablets are too and even the old TV has a smart set-top box that links it to the mighty WWW.

So, we all are hooked in, but who uses what?

Google tends to attract more skeptic individuals that search a lot until they decide where to buy from.

Yahoo still has more conservators users, Yahoo’s loyal and somehow older, which also search less until they buy things.

Bing powers Yahoo now and it will bring the change for old Yahoo – Bing has a new breed of users – the skeptics that dislike Google and want a different search experience.

So, it's damn important to get your business listed on the big WWW and also you want it placed as high as possible in BIG 3's SERP (Search Engine Return Page).

Once you are there, you want your business to be visited and get thousands of potential customers, but actually who gets the traffic?

It's definitely a step forward to have a Site, Blog, and Social Media presence for your Business, but to get the traffic you need to AIM for PAGE #1 in SERP of BIG 3’s.

How much traffic Google’s Page#1 gets?

Let's start saying...a lot....almost everybody gets the info from first page, which by default has 10 organic results displayed on it.

Very rare, we adventure exploring Page2, Page3, Page4....of SERP and even if we do, probably we do it for research purposes and NOT to BUY something.

If you want your SERVICES to be bought....you need to be on PAGE#1 of SERP for all your most important keywords.

Page #1 gets 90-95% of the traffic; the other pages get only impressions and NO CLICKS.

It’s true that Page #1 in Google, by example, gets all the cream and based on stats the Top10 traffic split would be (example below is based on my experience and my websitesstats):

Get the first spot on the first page in Google SEPR for your important key phrases and you will get between 35% and 60% of the clicks from a particular key traffic – percentage may depends on your particular niche.

Second spot is not bad either, it will give you 10-20% of the clicks and number 3 brings at least 10%.
In almost all the niches, from forth place onwards you will get less than 10% of the clicks and the drop is more linear than for the first three positions.

If you have any other interesting stats about subject please share/comment.

Cheers,
Nick

Android 2.3.3 problems on HTC Desire HD

As many others, I have updated the HTC DESIRE HD to the new Gingerbread - Android 2.3.3, hoping to get a better OS...as  I knew that the new OS iteration comes with new forms of communication for developers and users, including better Near Field Communications (NFC) capabilities, so that developers can start delivering contactless, proximity-based applications.

On top of NFC we all hoped to improve battery life and proxy issue for wireless networks.

But, I've updated my HTC Desire HD from android 2.2 to 2.3.3 few days ago, and my battery life is dramatically shortened now... before i charged my phone every 2 days and now battery is gone is less then 10hours.

Many others seems to have issues with WiFi, GSM, GPS since the update - issue being - decreased signal levels and multiple dropouts in areas where everything worked fine with Android 2.2.
Personally, I haven't noticed WiFi, GSM, GPS issues, but a 10h battery life is killing me.

I'm interested to get a FIX for this troubled version Android 2.3.3 - Gingerbread!
Anybody knows when 2.3.4 will be released - post here.
Or, can we roll back to 2.2?

My HTC Desire HD - got sick again....

Google Page Rank Update 2011

PageRank is Google algorithm, that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set.
It is a complicated algorithm, no doubt, more explanations about it are well documented on this wiki-page.

The thing  that we want to debate here is not the algorithm itself, we know lots about it and still don't know enough or if this PR matters too much for your SERP (Search Engine Result Page) Rank.

Due to PR inconsistent release schedule and to its very narrow scale 0-10, it is widely believed that Google PR doesn't count too much for your ranking.

Though, in SEO world everybody checks the PR, at least as the first glimpse about a webpage, and as you know a ZERO Page Rank doesn't look good.

Roughly, a new Google PR is released each ~3months. They don't have a precise date for the release....and sometimes Google just don't DO IT for a longer while.

A history of Google Page Rank updates (as we know it) is shown below:

  • NEW: PR UPDATE 7 AUG 2011
  • NEW: PR UPDATE 27 JUNE 2011
  • Network Wide Toolbar Pagerank Update – JANUARY 2011
  • Network Wide Toolbar Pagerank Update April 2010
  • Network Wide - Dec 31, 2009
  • Network Wide – 30 October 2009
  • Network Wide 27/28 May 2009 – Google PR Update
  • Network Wide 1 / 2 April 2009 – Google Pagerank Update 2009
  • Network Wide 30-31 December 2008
  • Network Wide 27 September 2008
  • Network Wide 26 July 2008
  • Network Wide 29 April 2008
  • Network Wide 9,10,11,12 January 2008
  • Network Wide 26 October 2007
  • Network Wide 28 April 2007
As you can see,  last year, Google didn't bother too much to update its PR (to be read - didn't bother to let us know about PR changes) and they release only ONE update.

This situation created a lot of tension in SEO world and it's about to be repeated this year?
Nobody really knows, besides Google.

What we know is, that last Google Page Rank Update has been seen on ~19Jan 2011 and since then we have had only speculations about a new release.

It is expected soon a new release, especially by people who want to be ranked for the first time...
